The Dwarves built many small fortifications along their long roads, to protect their caravans from poor weather, or attacks from the many enemies that might seek to take their wares.
Waystations are low, squat building, usually dug a couple of levels down into the earth. All Waystations contain at minumum a forge with various crafting stations, a dormitory and a well. Waystations on more popular routes might also have inns, brewing stations, small markets, stables, or even a barracks for a guard.
Permanent settlements have sprung up around the larger Waystations, and Dwarves who have not taken to the nomadic lifestyle might settle here.
