Rumours and Fungus

After the rescue of the Dwarven Waystation’s patrons, time was spent recovering. The party gathered many rumours with judicious use of Investigation and Persuasion.

Aim discovered that the ‘Damned Vengeance’ the Cult of the Burning Blade were seeking was a Legendary Weapon, rumoured to be the only such weapon capable of killing the Demon Lord Nagarash.

A Egland merchant who had recently visited Depool asks for a quiet work with the Farondai, telling him he is grateful for his rescue, and wishes to reward him with the information that Lord Maer has sent word to a group of bounty hunters from Tabrygc, telling them to travel south west and ambush the rogue on the old dwarf road.

A member of Lock’s church tells her she got word of an old temple to their god being discovered along the Llangar river. It needs clearing out and rededicating to the religion.

A Collimong alchemist is furious that his bodyguards fled the instant they were freed from the cocoons. He now needs an escort to explore some nearby caves in the foothills of the Gabizar Crags and gather some rare ingredients.

A member of Lock’s church tells her she got word of an old temple to their god being discovered along the Llangar river. It needs clearing out and rededicating to the religion.

The Dwarves would like to reopen an old watchtower along the river, to control the recent bandit activity, but strange lights have been seen at nights, and no scouts sent to investigate have returned.

Crazy rumours of a flying island, controlled by a group of lizard men, appearing in the skies of Lodorthob.

(it was decided the last one was a bit too silly to be true)

The Party decided Reed and the dwarven cleric would travel on to Aelbrygc to investigate rumours of the Cult of the Burning Blade being present in the town.

The rest of the party would head to Aelbrygc, but assist Speteoklo the alchemist in finding some fungus samples to make some gold on the way.

Travellling overland to the Crags, the party found the cave and went within.

The dwarf rogue Farondai scouted ahead and found three bandits, turned into zombie like creatures by a strange fungus. The party crept past them and head north.

To the north was a narrow channel heading upwards. The rogue crept inside and was seized by an unseen assailant. Barabar charged upwards, and Aim fired a ray of frost just in case, which hit whatever had taken the rogue.

The rest of the party climbed up the channel to discover the rogue in combat with a giant frog, with two large Quaggoth (bearlike humanoids) Spore Creatures shambling east towards them. Aim and Skie cast spells and injured the toad and one of the Quaggoths. Barbar attacked the toad then caught a glimpse of something in the distance, abandoned the party and ran off.

Skie used her lightning spell to explode the toad all over the cavern. Lock got inbetween the Quaggoths and cast Thunderwave, although the Quaggoths were not as hurt as she had hoped. The Quaggoths turned their attacks on her, mauling Lock with their fungoid claws (one getting a critical hit for maximum damage).

Aim missed twice with Ray of Frost. Lock wore the Quaggoths down, while Farondai rolled about doing extra damage with the Gnomish Frost Dagger he’d traded with Reed for the Silver Longsword. Finally, Lock killed the first Quaggoth, and Farondai stabbed the other one from behind. Their bodies collapsed into ooze, revealing a number of spell scrolls hidden within…
